# Whitepaper

> The original QBTC whitepaper as a historical design document. The canonical chain reference now lives in the Protocol Specification.

The original QBTC whitepaper is the historical design document for the project.

For the current state of the chain, the canonical references are:

* [Protocol Specification](../research/protocol-spec.md), the technical description of what is implemented in the chain code.
* [Tokenomics](../research/tokenomics.md), the economic model.

These supersede the whitepaper for the purpose of evaluating what the QBTC chain does today.
